I am going to talk about Google maps (my personal favorite) and I will provide links to some other off line map apps.
First you will need an Android smartphone. Go to your local US Cellular store for a large selection of phones from top manufactures like Samsung.
Ok on with the lesson! Open your Google maps app, click the menu button, then settings, click the "labs" tab, then check the Pre-cache map area box. Back out to the maps, long press on the screen (close to the location you want to map is better), tap on the address bar that will appear. Tap the "pre-cache map area" option that appears. Google maps will download a 10 mile section around the chosen location. If you need a larger area, just repeat the steps above.
Now to access this map just open Google maps, click settings, tap cache, and your map will be listed under the name that appeared on the address bar when you started cacheing your map, tap the one you want and there is your map!
Navfree is another way to navigate with no data. It uses high-quality, open-source map data from OpenStreetMap which was created and maintained continually by up to 400,000 users. So if you find a problem with these maps you can sign up at http://bit.ly/LEEDv2.
Another app that uses Openstreetmap is MapDroyd. It has much the same features as Navfree, so pick your favorite and cut down on your data usage! I have only scratched the surface with these apps, so don't be afraid to experiment and have fun with your Android powered phone from US Cellular!
As always if you have any questions about this information, US Cellular phones and service in general, feel free to message me through Google + or in the comments section. And thank you for spending your valuable time reading this.
